Some days we long for something familiar. Whether it’s a place, a voice or a sound from home everyone loves to go where they know and are known. As leaders, the busyness of the holidays can creep into our hearts and minds causing us to lose sight of what it is we are celebrating. We plan parties, programs and specials but we run the real risk of letting the celebration of Immanuel, “God with us” pass by unnoticed for all the stuff we’re doing. My friends, we do no one any good if we lose the beauty of the gift because of planning the party.
I invite you to slow down with me.
Take a deep breath in and then when you exhale speak a simple prayer, “Jesus, remind me of the peace, hope, joy and love found in you.”
Breathe in again and exhale thanking him, “Lord, thank you for being Immanuel, God with us.”
Breathe in and exhale your confession, “Christ, forgive my …….”
Breathe in slowly and exhale your need to him, “Father, I need …….”
Now friend, sit for just two seconds and embrace the familiar presence of the Holy Spirit weaving comfort and peace into your soul.
Psalm 119:76 is a good reminder and prayer. Today this is my prayer and I hope you will make it yours:
“May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.”
During the next two weeks as details, parties, and services come at you faster than light speed come back to these simple prayers and this simple truth: Jesus is with you.
